Family Guy’s Writers Want To Get Fired

After last Sunday’s painful-to-watch episode of Family Guy, I’ve decided that the show wants to get canceled. If I wanted to get fired, I’d do the laziest job possible. That’s what we got from their writers this Sunday. Even bad episodes of The Simpsons at least feel like they’re trying, but this Family Guy was on awful-pilot, which is like auto-pilot, but with a greater negative connotation.

Some “highlights”:

* A cutting-edge plot that completely centered around OJ Simpson.
* They get to that plot by introducing the element of a 19 year old raffle ticket about :30 seconds before commercial break. Phew! Got the plot into the first act!
* 8 minutes of Conway Twitty you’ll fast-forward right over.
* Family Guy’s 4,378th Back To The Future reference.
* A twist ending where you find out that OJ really is a murderer. Who da thunk it?

A long time ago, I was a fan of this show. Now it feels like a punishment to watch. I guess maybe the writers want to share their pain?

BTW – American Dad is awesome. If you had told me in 2005 that American Dad would become a great show and Family Guy would start sucking hard, I’d have punched you in the mouth. Years later, I would have regretted it. “I’m… so sorry,” I would have said to myself. “I didn’t know. None of us knew.”

  • Haha… OJ Simpson. That’s never going to get old.

  • Never!

  • It really is sad.
I remember a time when there was actually plot development and the characters had a unique personality.

The Conway Twitty thing is probably the lowest they have sunk.

Unfortunately people are gonna watch it no matter how terrible it gets,

  • I thought it was great. The Conway Twitty gag was funny, and the commitment to something that crazy is inspired…

  • Hexen – Hilariously, it’s not the first time they’ve done the Conway Twitty thing, either. It’s such a time-waster.

Killian – Well, to each their own. I just saw the Conway thing as the writers trying to eat up time in a ridiculously plot-thin episode. I like the old “I can’t believe we’re doing something this long” gags better, like when Peter trips and holds his knee, going “tssss!” It’s lengthening a relatable, real life moment, rather than just a lazy cutaway.
