Addicted To An iPhone Game: Letter Matrix

Letter Matrix

Generally, iPhone games are time wasters while I’m stuck in a waiting room or having to listen to someone talk to me.  Games I enjoy are Cube Runner (which reminds me of the old school Mac game Spectre), PapiJump and the elegant Crayon Physics.  However, it took someone pretty genius to combine Scrabble and Tetris into one addicting game.

Letter Matrix is made by USA Network, which has branched out into the casual games market via their Character Arcade.  I’m not entirely sure why — isn’t making Monk enough for those people?  Well, thankfully it’s not, because this game’s a lot of fun.  Essentially, letters fall down and create stacks.  Click on the letters and form words, which make the letters disappear.  If you’re too slow, the stacks pile up and you lose.

Sounds simple, but like many of the greatest games, it’s difficult to master.  You have to think and press buttons very quickly.  It took me a few tries before I got the hang of it, and now I’m on my iPhone constantly trying to top my last score.  So far, it’s more addictive than anything I’ve played on the DS, but to be fair, I’m a big Scrabblehead.

What’s the most addictive portable game you’ve ever played?
