How Facebook Could Eliminate LinkedIn

There’s always too much social networking going on. When I got a MySpace, I needed a Facebook. When I got Facebook, I needed Twitter. Now I need a separate social networking site for just my business contacts. Blarg. There has to be a better way!
With a simple modification, Facebook could immediately wipe out LinkedIn. Here’s what they do: give us the option to display certain Facebook information to different types of “friends.” In other words, say I don’t want my boss looking at the party photo of me trying to have sex with an XBOX 360. I tag the photo as “friends only,” or set my profile so work friends can’t see my photos. Apart from that, all you need is a resume application and bada bing: Facebook is as good as LinkedIn. (Facebook also lets you know what contacts you share with each person, so no worries there.) Really, there’s no need for a separate site to get your business privacy, it would just take a little added user customization.
It’s a pain in the ass to re-friend contacts in LinkedIn. I don’t want to have to maintain two separate social networking profiles. Facebook, it’s time to put LinkedIn out of its misery.

Can I see the picture of you having sex with the 360? That’s not a weird thing to ask is it?

Hear hear on tagging of private vs public. Same for Twitter (private groups vs public).

Yeah, why not? At least give us the option.
