$45,000 Is Worth It For The Ghostbusters Car

A month ago, the New Beverly Cinema showed Back To The Future, and out on display was the Delorean, complete with Flux Capacitor.  As soon as I saw it, I turned to my girlfriend and said, “I want that but Ghostbusters.”

Well, she just sent me the link to a recently expired auction: nobody won the 1959 Cadillac that looks just like the Ghostbusters wagon, complete with Slimer in the driver’s seat.  It was once owned by Universal Studios, but when it went up for auction recently, no one bid above the reserve of $45,100.

Ghostbusters Car

Man, if I had money right now, I’d buy it.  $45,000 is not unreasonable for a car that awesome.  Maybe I should take out a loan or something.  I just beat the Ghostbusters video game, I can’t wait for the 3rd movie (not directed by Judd Apatow), and I’ve even dressed up as Rick Moranis as a Ghostbuster for Halloween.  It only makes sense that I own that car, especially if none of the richos out there want it.

I ain’t afraid of no car loan payments, as I’m often fond of saying.

  • You sir, are a practical man. $45k is a reasonable price. This particular car ended up going for $80k after a Barrett-Jackson auction, it’s value increased slightly by it’s status as a theme park car. My Ectomobile ran me considerably more than $45k to build so I would envision your estimate still being a reasonable price. ( Cars are money pits anyways; you never get back what you put into it. ) There’s currently one for sale in the UK and they’re asking $110K or more for it. It’s not exactly accurate, and I’m understating that opinion. Blech.

Keep up the good work, Geoffrey.

  • Thanks, Bryan!

You may not get your money back, but every day you’re living the dream of having an Ectomobile in your garage. If you want to drive around — IN THE ECTOMOBILE — you can do that whenever you like. You and Egon Spengler have that in common. Sir, I salute you.
