Yowza, it’s a new year, and a new time for an update on what’s new!

DID I MENTION NEW?!

First of all, there was a loverly interview with me at Write On last month, where I discuss The Devastator, writing for different mediums and getting drunk with the former WB mascot.

The Devastator: My quarterly comedy magazine continues to devastate all in its path. We went to the Alternative Press Expo last year, and this year we’ll be exhibiting at Comic-Con and WonderCon. Wired did a super cool feature on us, and we did an interview with Robot 6 (Comic Book Resources) about stuff we cut from Devastator #1 and print humor groupies. Oh, and we released this animated video about Tetris:

…which has been featured on G4, The Escapist, Go Nintendo and Siliconera.

Leetstreet Boys: The adventures continue with an epic spooky mystery story, a new rival band appearing on the scene and the current story that’ll take Rose on an adventure through the Nintendoverse. Also, I love writing the word “Nintendoverse.”

Screen Junkies: I’m excited to join the entertainment blogging team at Screen Junkies, starting next week, where I’ll be covering TV and movie stuffs. Keeping my fingers crossed for some screeners, so I don’t have to pay $24.50 for the next Big Momma’s House movie in 3D.

At the end of last year, I wrote the American version of the animated movie Aachi & Ssipak, which should be released later this year. I’ll let you know when it’s out. I’m also working on a hush-hush video game project and a few even secreter things. Shh!

2011: Let’s do this shit.

Two new Mario games for Nintendo Wii means I'm one happy plumber.

Just when I was getting bummed about not having new Wii games to be excited about (I still need to play Punch-Out), Nintendo delivered at E3 this year:

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Super Mario Galaxy 2

Woo hoo! This is my favorite news to come out of E3 so far. Mario games have a great track record for awesomeness, Mario Sunshine notwithstanding, so I’m looking forward to get hooked on the brothers once again.

I’m also excited about Beatles Rock Band, though I wonder if a rhythm games backlash is coming. There’s always Rock Band at every party. How many times will I sing I Am The Walrus before I’m bored with it? It’s cool that Techmo is releasing Fret Nice, the game guitar-based side-scroller. I played a demo at GDC in ’07 and it’s a blast – as well as something else you can play with that expensive guitar controller.

As you can tell by my extensive linking, great E3 coverage can be found at Siliconera.com, friend of this blog. Keep refreshing their site for the latest and greatest.

Addicted To An iPhone Game: Letter Matrix

Letter Matrix is like Tetris meets Scrabble on my iPhone... and I can't stop playing it!

Generally, iPhone games are time wasters while I’m stuck in a waiting room or having to listen to someone talk to me. Games I enjoy are Cube Runner (which reminds me of the old school Mac game Spectre), PapiJump and the elegant Crayon Physics. However, it took someone pretty genius to combine Scrabble and Tetris into one addicting game.

Letter Matrix is made by USA Network, which has branched out into the casual games market via their Character Arcade. I’m not entirely sure why — isn’t making Monk enough for those people? Well, thankfully it’s not, because this game’s a lot of fun. Essentially, letters fall down and create stacks. Click on the letters and form words, which make the letters disappear. If you’re too slow, the stacks pile up and you lose.

Sounds simple, but like many of the greatest games, it’s difficult to master. You have to think and press buttons very quickly. It took me a few tries before I got the hang of it, and now I’m on my iPhone constantly trying to top my last score. So far, it’s more addictive than anything I’ve played on the DS, but to be fair, I’m a big Scrabblehead.

What’s the most addictive portable game you’ve ever played?
